Region-wide battery collection next week

Niagara Region is collecting used batteries next week to help keep them out of landfills.

Residents are asked to leave unwanted batteries in a sealed, clear plastic bag next to their recycling by 7 a.m. on the morning of their regular collection day between April 23 to 27.

The Region encourages residents to leave only undamaged standard batteries (A, AA, AAA, C, D) along with 6-volt, 9-volt, and button cell batteries.

Masking tape should be used to cover the ends or terminals of button cell, 6-volt and 9-volt batteries.

Rechargeable battery packs, such as lithium-ion, nickel cadmium and nickel-metal hydride will also be accepted.

The Region will not accept any car, industrial or leaking batteries.

Unaccepted batteries can be dropped off at the nearest hazardous waste depot.
