UPDATED: body found at Port Colborne dog park

UPDATE: Niagara Regional Police are still investigating after the body of a 55-year-old woman was discovered a Port Colborne dog park.

Police said the body was discovered around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday after police responded to a welfare check; instigated when personal property and a loose dog were found in the north end of the park.

The park was closed for police investigation and is expected to be open this afternoon.

Police said there is no concern for public safety.

Officers are looking to speak with anyone who was in the area of the dog park or who may have observed a female walking with a dog on Elm St. sometime between Wednesday at 10 p.m. and Thursday at 7 a.m.

Police provide the following description of the deceased:

  • Caucasian
  • Heavyset 
  • Short grey/blond curly hair
  • Wearing black jeans, black boots and a dark blue wind breaker

The dog found at the scene was a black Labrador Retriever.

The deceased was identified and next of kin was notified. 

Police are not releasing the name out of respect for the family.

The dog park, located on Elm St., will be closed during the investigation.
