Ontario offers free fishing from July 3 to 11

Been eager to go fishing this year, but haven’t had time to get a licence?

Fret no more, because from July 3 to 11, fishing is free in Ontario.

This means aross the province you won’t need to purchase a licence or carry an Outdoors Card to go fishing.

“Fishing is a time-honoured tradition and terrific way for families to spend time together,” said Greg Rickford, minister of northern development, mines, natural resources and forestry.

“I hope everyone in Ontario is able to head down to a lake or river and take part in Free Fishing Week this year.”

Anyone taking part in the free fishing is reminded to follow safe COVID-19 regulations under Step 2 of the province’s Roadmap to Reopen.

The province also reminds people to follow conservation licence catch limits, obey size limits and sanctuaries and follow all other fishing regulations and rules that would apply to someone with a licence.
