Driver clocked going 145 km/h

A 23-year-old has been charged with stunting after being caught speeding at 145 km/h on Sunday in Welland.

Police said they clocked the speed at approximately 11:18 a.m. in a 60 km/h zone.

“I have no reason to be going that fast, I just kind of put my foot down,” the driver said to the officer after been stopped.

As per the Highway Traffic Act, the driver's licence was suspended for seven days and their car was impounded for seven days.

“Drivers need to remember that there can be sand and salt left over from winter on our roadways,” said Const. MacLeod, the investigating officer.

“There is just no excuse to be travelling 75 km/h over the speed limit.”

Police are reminding the public that with warmer weather, more cyclists have begun to use the roadways and children are likely to be on or near roadways.

“Drivers need to ensure they are in control of their vehicles,” MacLeod said.
