Niagara may see boom in Chinese tourism

Niagara may see an increase in Chinese tourism this year, as 2018 is officially the “Canada-China Year of Tourism.”

According to the federal government, Chinese visitors are now Canada’s third-largest tourism source market behind the United States and the United Kingdom, with the number of Chinese visitors having tripled since 2010 — the year Canada received approved destination status in China.

Since then, Chinese tourism has been steadily on the rise, generating significant tourism revenues.

In 2016, around 610,100 Chinese tourists visited Canada spending around $1.5 billion — an average of $2,438 per visitor.
