NRPS announce gun amnesty during April

Niagara Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police will hold a gun amnesty during the month of April for any Ontario resident who wishes to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition.

During the amnesty, police will not lay weapons-related charges on the people who are turning in such items, though police note there will be no amnesty offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime.

Police said the amnesty enhances public safety by providing citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons.

Anonymous submissions will not be accepted.

Interested gun owners are strongly urged to call police at 905-688-4111 to arrange for officers to pick up the weapons.

Police warn under no circumstances should anyone deliver guns or ammunition directly to police facilities.
