The Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre is now closed to the public on the weekends.

The change follows a reduction to the centre's hours of operation in October amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We continue to see a steady decline in the number of people using the community centre gym and fitness, especially on weekends,” Dan Maksenuk, acting manager of parks and recreation, said in a media release.

“Staff has decided to temporarily close the building on weekends in order to further maintain fiscal responsibility amid user changes and allow for the redeployment of staff to assist with active screening at the arenas.”

With the change, the customer service desk, track and fitness area, and Sweets & Swirls Café will be open to the public Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
