The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is extending the closure of all town-owned facilities and the cancellation of in-person municipal events, meetings and programming until June 30.
“This decision is necessary based on the demographic of our population and the significant risk a human health emergency, such as COVID-19, presents to our community,” the town said in a news release Friday.
“These closures and cancellations will help to limit the spread of this virus in NOTL and protect the health and well-being of our residents and staff.”
The Senior Citizen Strawberry Social, typically held in June, will also be cancelled and the town’s “Step Challenge” will be postponed until further notice.
With the number of confirmed cases continually increasing in the Niagara region, the town says it is “more important than ever to self-isolate, practice physical distancing and stay home whenever possible.”
