Newark Neighbours is making changes to its food bank hours, and letting people in the community know how they can help keep it stocked for families in need.
The food bank will now be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. till 12 noon.Â
The charity said stock is running low and is encouraging people to help out with the following food donations:Â
- Peanut ButterÂ
- Strawberry JamÂ
- Canned Fruit (small cans preferably)Â
- Canned StewÂ
- Canned Kidney BeansÂ
- Canned ChiliÂ
- Canned Chunky Chicken soupÂ
- Small boxes of salted soup crackersÂ
- CerealÂ
- Flavoured Instant Oatmeal packetsÂ
- Cleaning wipesÂ
- Toilet PaperÂ
The organization said people who are healthy and wish to drop-off non-perishable food donations can do so at 310 John Street on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the back door.
Newark Neighbours volunteers will disinfect all cans/packages before it is put on shelves.
Anyone donating is reminded not to leave food donations unattended, and to hold off on all collectible/clothing donations at this time.
Monetary donations can also be made by mailing a cheque to: Newark Neighbours, 454 Mississauga Street, Suite 150, P.O. Box 1090, Niagara-on-the- Lake, On, L0S 1J0. People can also donate online via Newark Neighbours’ website www.newarkneighbours.ca. Donors will receive a tax receipt for the full of the value of the donation.
Anyone dropping off donations of food should call 905-468-3519 and leave a message indicating what day they will be visiting.
