McGuire got $870,000 retirement pay

The Regional Municipality of Niagara Police Services Board announced Monday it paid Chief Jeff McGuire $870,000 in retirement pay.

As well, his work vehicle, computer, cellphone, iPad and printer were given to him on the condition that the iPad and computer be cleared of NRPS and Board-related information. McGuire acknowledged the gift of the vehicle constitutes a taxable benefit.

He received half the retirement money when he retired in July of 2017. The other half was paid this month.

McGuire announced his 2017 retirement in June and retired July 22, despite an extended agreement to work until 2020.

The Board made the information available Monday on its website.
