$77,000 seized in St. Catharines drug bust

Police seized more than $76,000 in Canadian currency and $1,400 in USD while arresting a St. Catharines man on alleged drug trafficking charges Wednesday.

During the police investigation, which started in January 2017, police say they made observations consistent with a person who was operating a mobile drug trafficking operation.

Police found a quantity of cocaine and Canadian currency on the suspect when he was arrested were then granted the authority to search his residence, where they discovered more drugs (cocaine, oxycodone and marijuana, as well as and a large amount of money.

Arrested and charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime over $5,000 is 33-year-old Jay Croal of St.Catharines.

Croal has a bail hearing Thursday.
