SIU investigating NRP incident with St. Catharines man

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating an incident that occurred in St. Catharines on Jan. 11 in which a 34-year-old man sustained a “serious injury,” says an SIU press release.

It said preliminary information suggests that at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 10), Niagara Regional Police officers responded to a call at a residence in the area of Manchester Ave. and Whitmore St. in St. Catharines. The nature of the call was not further elaborated on.

“Upon entering the residence, the officers located a man and there was an interaction,” said the release.

The man, who was not identified, was arrested taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a “serious injury.”

The SIU said two investigators have been assigned to the incident and would like anyone with information to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

Those who may have video evidence related to this incident are asked to upload it through the SIU website.

The SIU investigates reports police incidents that result in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault in Ontario.
