Single-use plastics banned from town facilities

Niagara-on-the-Lake council has banned single-use plastics from all municipal facilities and operations.

The motion by Coun. Norm Arsenault was passed during a special council meeting on Saturday morning.

Rather than banning plastics across town, “I think we have the best bet at it if we start with ourselves,” said Coun. Clare Cameron, who suggested limiting the ban to town-owned facilities.

Coun. Stuart McCormack was the the only one to vote against the move.

The controversial motion had been carried over from Monday's regular council meeting.
