Good samaritan struck and killed

A woman who tried to offer assistance to the victim of a car crash has died after she was struck by an SUV while trying to get to the scene.

Police say at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, a vehicle left the QEW and ended up on its side in the east ditch of Montrose Rd.

Shortly after the crash, a second vehicle, driven by a 48-year-old woman, pulled over on the west shoulder to offer assistance to the occupants of the crashed vehicle.

The woman exited the vehicle and attempted to cross Montrose Rd. when she was struck by a 2016 Nissan Murano, driven by a 59-year-old male resident of Niagara Falls.

She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and was later transported to an out of town hospital where she died from her injuries.

The female driver from the first collision suffered minor injuries and the 59-year-old male driver of the Nissan did not suffer any injuries in the collision, police say.

The collision remains under police investigation.

Any witnesses of the collision are asked to contact investigators at 905-688-4111, ext. 5500.
