The government of Canada issued a special weather statement for Niagara residents on Tuesday at 10:51 a.m.
The statement said on Tuesday that Niagara residents can expect southwest winds gusting up to 80 km/h, especially near the lakeshore.
It said the southwest winds will increase Tuesday morning and afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front, warning that winds could be strong enough to toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
Isolated power outages may be possible as well.
The wind will begin to ease late this afternoon into this evening.
