Marijuana grow-op busted in Wainfleet

On Aug. 31, Niagara Regional Police arrested two men in connection with a grow operation that harboured 668 marijuana plants.

Police say during the month of August, members of the Guns, Gangs and Grows Unit investigated a suspected marijuana grow operation located at a rural property on Willford Rd. in the Township of Wainfleet.

The investigation led police to obtain a warrant to search the residence and a greenhouse located on the property.

Police executed the search warrant Aug. 31, and arrested two males inside the greenhouse.

Within the greenhouse police found 668 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, police say.

They say two men did not have the proper authorization to possess or produce marijuana.

Thirty-year-old De Jun Zheng of North York and 31-year-old Xuezhe Jin of Scarborough were both charged with production of a schedule II substance and possession of a schedule II substance.

Zheng and Jin were both released from custody with a pending court date.
