Walk Off the Earth New Year’s performance cancelled

The iconic Burlington-based band Walk Off the Earth lost one of its members on Sunday.

Mike “Beard Guy” Taylor died “peacefully in from natural causes last night in his sleep,” wrote the band in a statement. “Mike had a love for life that was unmatched and a willingness to give that went beyond ordinary means.”

Band members said their sympathies are with his two children, whom he “adored more than anything else in the world.”

Walk Off the Earth was scheduled to perform at the New Year’s Eve Concert in Niagara Falls along with The Sheepdogs, Avenue Inn and Burton Cummings.

Due to the loss, the band will no longer be performing.

Toronto-based rock band The Carpet Frogs are currently touring with Burton Cummings and are set to perform tonight at the NYE concert in their place.

Walk Off The Earth was formed in Burlington, where Taylor resided. The City of Burlington flags are lowered at half-mast in his memory.

In 2006, they topped Canadian music charts at number nine with their song Red Hands. They've also covered songs by Taylor Swift, Maroon5 and Wiz Khalifa.
