Shred-It event to support NOTL Palliative Care

Got a stack of old documents laying around?

Bring out the boxes and head down to SHRED-IT on Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The community event, sponsored by Meridian Credit Union and organized by Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Palliative Care Service, provides residents with a convenient and economical way to dispose of confidential documents, while at the same time raising funds to support palliative care in NOTL.

For more than 30 years NOTL Palliative Care, a community-based volunteer organization, has been offering free-of-charge services including trained visiting volunteers, equipment and bereavement support.

The group is encouraging residents to bring documents to the parking lot of Meridian Credit Union, 1567 Niagara Stone Road, Virgil, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on August 18, or until the trucks are full.

Costs are $6 a banker’s box or three boxes for $15. All material dropped off will be confidentially shredded, said NOTL Palliative Care in a news release.

It is not necessary to remove paper clips or staples from the documents. However, ring binders, alligator clips and thick plastic will not be accepted for shredding.
