2021 Canada Games announces CEO

The 2021 Canada Games, set to hit the Niagara region, announced Wayne Parrish as its chief executive officer.

The Host Society for the Games announced the decision on Jan. 31, following a national search for a new CEO which launched last fall.

A Games press release said Parrish “stood out” over all other applicants.

Parrish has been a chief revenue and transformation officer and a chief operating officer at Postmedia Network, as well as president and CEO of Canada Basketball.

He is currently the co-chair of Canada Basketball and president of Sport Media Enterprises.

“The Canada Games are a special event for sport and culture in our country and I am extremely excited to be part of the team that will welcome all of Canada to Niagara in 2021,” said Parrish.

The 2021 Canada Games will see approximately 5,000 young athletes from across Canada make their way to Niagara.

It is expected around 5,000 volunteers will be needed to host the Games, and that the event will bring an economic impact of approximately $200 million to the Niagara region.

Parrish starts his role as CEO on Mar. 1, 2018.
