Jonathan Frakes, a.k.a. Commander Riker, coming to Niagara Falls Comic Con in 2018

Jonathan Frakes will be at Niagara Falls Comic Con in 2018.

Frakes, perhaps best known best for his portrayal of Captain Picard’s “number one” (Commander William T. Riker) on Star Trek: The Next Generation, will be at the convention all three days, June 1, 2 and 3.

Chris Dabrowski, owner and founder of Niagara Falls Comic Con, said he thinks Frakes will be a “big draw” for Star Trek fans.

“When we had William Shatner here in 2014, the convention centre was packed with people — and Riker is arguably as iconic to Star Trek fans … The Next Generation is one of the stand-out series, and Frakes’ character was right next to Patrick Stewart,” said Dabrowski.

Frakes, who also has an extensive career as a director, will join other confirmed celebrities for 2018, including Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan’s Island, and John Ratzenberger and George Wendt, who play Cliff and Norm in Cheers, respectively.

Recently, Frakes directed episode five of Seth MacFarlane’s new TV series The Orville, which closely resembles The Next Generation in a lot of ways.

Frakes also still does some acting and voice work, having voice-acted as Starlord’s father in the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
