RiverBrink Art Museum is hosting its annual ON THE BRINK Art Installation Festival on Aug. 30 and 31, highlighting contemporary installation art and the work of Niagara artists.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with opening remarks and a tour scheduled for 2 p.m. on Aug. 30.

This year’s theme, “Monument/Memory,” explores how art-making can preserve memory, the role of monuments in public space and questions of representation in commemoration.

Artists will also examine how a site, materials and form can encode memory.

Installation art is typically large-scale and mixed-media, created for a specific place or for a temporary period.

The form emphasizes how viewers experience the work, aiming to create an intense, immersive encounter.

RiverBrink, located in Queenston, has operated as a public art museum since 1983 in the former home of art collector and lawyer Samuel E. Weir.

Its exhibitions include historical works from the Weir collection alongside contemporary Canadian art.

Tourism Niagara-on-the-Lake is sponsoring the festival.
