For years, Jacintha Krish balanced being part of the corporate world, working in office management and accounting, and the artistic world, creating and teaching art.
Now, as a retiree, she spends much of her days putting paint to canvas, bringing to life her visions of vivid landscapes and florals.
On Sunday, the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre held a reception for Krish’s solo exhibition, “Impressions of My World in Bold Colour,” which showcased some of her latest works.
She paints in the style of contemporary impressionism and often paints what she sees in nature. Her work as a floral designer also influences her many floral pieces.
“I like growing them, I like designing them and I like painting them,” Krish told The Lake Report.
She said she is inspired not only by nature, but also by her students. She’s taught art for about 20 years, much of that time at the Pumphouse.
“They dig deep into where it’s all coming from — and we have fun together.”
Krish lives in Burlington and teaches art classes across southern Ontario, including in Toronto. She considers the Pumphouse one of her favourite places to teach.
“It’s so beautiful,” she said. “I love the students, I love the organization. They’re good to me, I’m good to them.”
Krish’s exhibition features nature-inspired acrylic paintings that capture the seasons.
Alongside her floral paintings, Krish added autumnal landscapes, including a painting of Niagara’s Bruce Trail.
Her classes run throughout the year, with dates and details available on the Pumphouse website.
“Impressions of My World in Bold Colour” runs in the Pumphouse’s Joyner Gallery until Sept. 27.
