A missing Italian greyhound is still roaming Niagara-on-the-Lake. Searchers are urging residents to keep watch.
Luna, a small 12-pound dog, remains missing after reported sightings in the NOTL and Virgil area, according to a missing-dog notice circulating locally. The notice does not say when or exactly where she was last seen.
A search and rescue team is involved.
A map circulated online with the notice outlines a search area stretching through Virgil and north toward Mississauga Beach and Old Town.
Residents are being asked to check beneath decks and inside sheds, barns, garages and other outbuildings where Luna may have crawled or become trapped. Anyone with security cameras should review their footage for signs of her.
People can also leave water outside, particularly during hot weather.
Luna stands about 33 to 38 centimetres tall at the shoulder. Photos show her with a grey-brown coat, white markings and a pink collar.
Anyone who spots Luna should not chase her, call out or make eye contact. Searchers want her to feel unnoticed and safe so she remains in one area.
Sightings should be reported immediately with the exact location, time and direction Luna was travelling. A photo or video should be taken only when it can be done safely from a distance.
Anyone who sees Luna can call or text her owner, Louisa Ibbotson, at 905-325-4132 at any time of day or night.
Ibbotson did not respond to a request for comment by publication time.
