The Townline Road culvert replacement, costing the municipality more than half a million dollars, will keep a section of Line 2 Road closed for roughly four months of construction, which began last Monday.
The project will cost $568,502.50, not including tax, said Jordan Frost, director of public works and infrastructure.
Frost said construction is on track and proceeding as planned.
It requires a full closure of Line 2 Road where the culvert passes beneath the roadway. The work is being carried out by contractor CRL Campbell Construction and was approved under the town’s 2025 capital budget.
No reopening date has been specified beyond the 17-week construction period.
Frost said the culvert was identified for replacement following an inspection required every two years under provincial rules for culverts with a span of three metres or greater. The inspections assess a culvert’s condition and provide recommended actions and timelines.
“The inspection suggested that this culvert be replaced,” he said.
In addition to installing a new culvert, the project includes rebuilding the road surface above it and improving the guide rails.
Townline Road remains open with one lane of traffic between Church Road and Scott Street, with portable traffic signals and a signed detour route around the closure.
Frost said bus companies and the general public have been informed of the closure, farm equipment and school buses will be affected and local and emergency access to properties in the closure area will be maintained throughout construction.
Frost said this was done “to ensure awareness.”
Work is expected to take place during regular daytime construction hours, with no overnight or weekend work planned. Noise will be limited to typical daytime construction activity, Frost said.
The project forms part of the town’s broader culvert replacement and infrastructure renewal program, aimed at maintaining critical assets, improving drainage and reducing the risk of flooding and roadway damage over time, he said.
