What’s on in Niagara-on-the-Lake this weekend: Christmas Parade returns

Crowds are expected in Old Town this weekend as Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Christmas Parade rolls through town.

A full slate of holiday events across town runs from Friday through Sunday.

FRIDAY, DEC. 12

Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre Holiday Market

9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Fri. and Sat.); 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Sun), 247 Ricardo St.

A festive holiday market fills the Walker Room gallery with unique gifts, art, pottery, jewellery, baked goods and more. Proceeds support children’s and seniors’ programs at the arts centre, and admission is free with a food item donation to the Newark Neighbours Food Bank.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum’s 130th Birthday Bash 

6:30 to 8:30 p.m., 43 Castlereagh St.

An evening of hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music marks 130 years of local history at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum. Tickets are $30 and open to museum members.

SATURDAY, DEC. 13

Fundraiser for in-need Happy Days Animal Sanctuary

10 a.m. to 2 p.m., 615 York Rd.

The Community Initiative for Animal Rescue will hold a Christmas bake sale at the Husky station at 615 York Rd. to support Happy Days Animal Sanctuary after a devastating fire killed 31 cats and destroyed the sanctuary’s main building.

Santa Claus Parade Breakfast at NOTL Bar & Restaurant

Santa departs at 10:30 a.m., 126 Queen St.

Santa makes an early stop at NOTL Bar & Restaurant, giving families a chance to enjoy breakfast and a visit before he dashes off to the Christmas Parade.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Christmas Parade

11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Old Town 

One of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s biggest holiday crowds is expected Saturday at 11 a.m. as the Christmas Parade returns to Old Town. It will start at the intersection of King and Centre streets and follow its traditional route along Castlereagh, Wellington, Byron/Prideaux, Simcoe and Queen streets.

Holiday Collection at Outlet Collection at Niagara 

12 to 6 p.m., (Sat. and Sun.); 300 Taylor Rd. 

S’mores, icewine and prize draws highlight the weekend, with Inniskillin and Jackson-Triggs pouring Saturday and Queenston Mile Vineyard on Sunday.

A Garrison Christmas at Fort George

12 to 4 p.m., (Sat. and Sun.); 51 Queens Parade

Fort George steps back into the early 1800s with historic holiday décor, roaring fires, crafts, music and musket demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Christmas Turkey and Ham Roll at the Legion

2 p.m., 410 King St.

Holiday cheer — and a chance to win a turkey or ham — rolls into Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 with its Christmas turkey and ham roll.

SUNDAY, DEC. 14

Joseph’s Estate Wines Christmas Open House

11 a.m. to 5 p.m., 1811 Niagara Stone Rd.

Sip, taste and be merry — Joseph’s Estate Wines hosts a festive Christmas Open House with wine and icewine tastings, treats, vendors and live music by Stan Johnston from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and David Anthony from 2 to 4 p.m.
