A 41-year-old Port Colborne teacher was arrested Thursday for alleged sexual exploitation charges involving students aged 16 and 17.

Police and school resource officers were made aware of allegations on Tuesday and subsequently launched a full investigation.

Allegedly, the woman had been sharing sexually explicit material with the teens.

On Thursday, police arrested 41-year-old Stephanie Colangelo, who is charged with one count of making sexually explicit material available to a person under 18, one count of luring a child to commit sexual exploitation, and one count of luring a child to make child pornography.

Colangelo, who was employed as a teacher with the Niagara Catholic District School Board at Denis Morris High School in St. Catharines, was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Police said they are aware “material related to the investigation is circulating amongst members of the public,” and remind all that it is against the law to distribute intimate images or videos of any person without the consent of the person depicted.

The Niagara Regional Police Service's ICE Unit is asking that anyone with information relating to this investigation contact Detective Constable Mike Pataran via email at nrpsice@niagarapolice.ca.
