SupperMarket kicks off with record-breaking attendance
Tim from Paddle Niagara)

The first SupperMarket of the season saw record-breaking opening day numbers this Wednesday, in what event organizers called the "unofficial start to the summer."

The crowd, mainly Niagara-on-the-Lake locals, socialized with old and new friends, dined on gourmet foods from more than 20 food vendors and enjoyed local beer, wine and cider.

Niagara Falls-based band Rusty Jacob entertained the crowd with their laid-back folksy, bluegrass sound, while families with youngsters took advantage of the free Kids Zone, supplied by Niagara Inflatables, as well as Niagara Nature Tours.

Food donations for Newark Neighbours were accepted in lieu of payment for the activities, which many participants took advantage of, said market coordinator Sharon Brinsmead-Taylor.

"It was fantastic to see so many locals out, celebrating community," she said.

The SupperMarket runs every Wednesday evening from 4:30 to 9 p.m. until September 19, on Hwy. 55, in the field outside Shopper's Drug Mart and the Garrison House.
