UPDATED: Suspicious death in downtown St. Catharines

UPDATE: Police have charged a man with second degree murder in connection with a suspicious death in downtown St. Catharines on Friday.

The victim was identified as 60-year-old Glenn Joseph Hewer of St. Catharines.

Charged is 36-year-old Shaun Joseph Fitzsimons of St. Catharines.

Fitzsimons was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
 

ORIGINAL: Police are investigating a "suspicious death" in St. Catharines after a man died in hospital this morning.

A member of the public found the man lying injured on the ground on Queen St., between Calvin and Church streets at around 1:21 a.m.

Police will be conducting ground searches and canvassing of the area.

The identity of the man has not been released.
