The city of St. Catharines wants to know what residents think should done with the parkland around the historic Buchanan House on Niagara St.

An online questionnaire will be launched this week at, stcatharines.ca/PlanYourPark to collect information and ideas from the community from residents about how they would like to see the use park used.

Jessica Button, project and development planner for the city, said the lands that surround the Buchanan House were used by the Canada’s Department of Agriculture as an experimental farm in the ‘50s and ‘60s.

“What we have now is a beautiful natural setting that’s home to nearly five dozen different species of trees.”

City staff also wants to hear from residents who don’t visit parks regularly about why they don’t go and what would motivate them to visit more often.

Residents can also express whether they are interested in attending a workshop to discuss a shared vision for the parkland.

The workshop would be held sometime in the spring, the city said.

The questionnaire will be available online until April 22.

Results from the questionnaire and the workshop will be used to propose recommendations to city council regarding the future of the Buchanan House parkland.
