UPDATE: Hockey referee assault suspect charged

St. Catharines police have arrested a man for an alleged assault that outside of Bill Burgoyne Memorial Arena occurred on Sunday, Feb. 4.

Police say on the day of the incident a male hockey referee was verbal abused and physical assaulted after officiating of a youth hockey game. 

As a result of the police investigation, 68-year-old Bruce Ruch of St. Catharines resident was identified as the alleged person responsible for this assault and charged with one count of assault. Ruch was released on peace officer conditions and a promise to appear in court.
