Dogs and their owners will be taking a walk in the park for a good cause this Sunday, May 26.

The St. Davids Lions is hosting the annual Walk for Dog Guides, part of a nationwide fundraiser, at the St. Davids Lions Park.

Participating dogs and their owners will help raise money to provide life-changing dog guides to Canadians with disabilities.

Trained dog guides are provided free to qualified applicants, however, it costs about $25,000 to raise, train and place each dog. The Lions Foundation of Canada receives no government funding.

Dogs are trained for a wide variety of conditions, including hearing, vision, seizure response, diabetic alert and autism assistance.

The event is sponsored by Pet Valu and pledge forms are available at Pet Valu in Virgil, St. David's Veterinary Clinic, Upper Canada Animal Hospital or online at www.walkfordogguides.com. You can also just sponsor someone if you're unable to actively participate in walking.

Registration at the Lions Park starts at 10:30, rain or shine. The Lions Club will be providing hot dogs (sorry pooches) and water as a thank you. There will also be door prizes.
