The Niagara Falls NDP have nominated Brian Barker as its candidate in this fall's federal election.

Barker, a teacher, coach, local activist and vice-president of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario Niagara, was chosen during a meeting of the NDP riding rssociation at the Niagara Falls Public Library on May 13.

"I grew up in a middle-class family and was able to work my way through university and ultimately start a career I could raise a family on. I'm worried that those opportunities have disappeared for my kids," Barker said in an news release.

"We're facing growing income inequality, a climate crisis, and the dismantling of our public healthcare system. While all of this is going on we have a government roiled in a scandal, where it seems they offered special favours to rich corporate supporters. I'm running because I want local families to have their voices heard as we confront these challenges,” he said.

The Niagara Falls riding includes the city of Niagara Falls and the towns of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie.
