Henry D'Angela back on Police Services Board
Henry D'Angela was re-appointed as a member in the Police Services Board

Henry D'Angela, a permanent resident of Thorold, was re-appointed as a member of the Niagara Police Services Board, on March 28.

D'Angela, who served on the Board as a Regional Councillor representative from December 2010 to December 2014 and held the Board Chair position for the years 2012-14, was re-appointed by Niagara Regional Council for the remaining term of this Council.

D'Angela stated "I am very honoured to be re-appointed to the Board. Policing is a key public service, and I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to add my efforts to that of my colleagues on the Board, and by doing so, to serve the members of the Niagara Regional Police Service and the community-at-large."

D'Angela fills the position previously held by former Board Member Terry Bonham, who served for more than four years.

Ken Gansel, Chair of the Niagara Police Services Board, welcomed D'Angela's appointment and said, "I look forward to working again with D'Angela. His previous experience will continue to serve this Board well as we move forward as a team to address the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. I would also like to extend sincere thanks to Bonham for his dedicated time and energy over the past four years."

D'Angela holds a degree with a major in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University and has operated an accounting firm for more than 25 years specializing in corporate and personal tax planning.

D’Angela was elected Commissioner for the Thorold Hydro Electric Commission in 1997. He was elected to Thorold Council in 2000 and was elected Mayor for the City of Thorold in 2006 which included serving on Niagara Regional Council.

Following his term as Mayor, D'Angela served two terms as Thorold’s elected Regional Councillor beginning in 2010. During his capacity as Mayor and Regional Councillor, D'Angela was appointed to the Niagara Regional Housing Board since 2006 and was elected Chair in January 2017. He has held many positions during his three terms on Regional Council such as Chair of the Niagara Police Services Board, Chair of the Regions Audit Committee, Chair of Regions Investment Committee, Co-Chair of the Regions Corporate Services Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Regions Budget Committee. He also served as a member of the Niagara Regional Housing Alternative Service Delivery Committee and member of the Public Health and Social Services Committee.

D'Angela currently serves as the Treasurer of the Welland Canal Foundation and has been appointed by the City of Thorold to the Committee of Adjustments and Thorold Municipal Non-Profit Housing Board.

D'Angela is a past Board Chair for the Niagara Sports Commission and was a member of the successful 2021 Canada Summer Games Bid Committee. He has coached many minor league hockey and baseball teams. He currently coaches a high school baseball team and is the convener/organizer of the Henderson’s High School Baseball Tournament.
