Halloween candy thief arrested in Niagara Falls

A 17-year-old girl was arrested at around 8:15 Halloween night for allegedly stealing candy from a 14-year-old boy, say Niagara Regional Police.

Police say the boy was out trick or treating in the area of Simcoe St. and Victoria Ave. in Niagara Falls when the 17-year-old approached him and began to scream and chase him, eventually tackling him to the ground, assaulting him and making off with his candy.

Police say the boy received minor injuries.

The girl was located and arrested close to the scene and will attend a bail hearing today at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

The girl had been in company of two other youths at the time of the alleged offence.

Her name cannot be published in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
